What Are The ‘Hot Button’ Topics With Your Email List? Here’s A Hint…

Of all the topics that I write about here, the one that consistently generates the most response is:

Me sending emailsabout people who complain about me sending emails.

This subject REALLY gets people fired up.

I never fail to get an inbox full of replies.

Here’s my theory about why:

As an entrepreneur, chances are you went into business because you love what you do.

Maybe it’s programming, or writing resumes, or helping people with their accounting.

You likely did *not* get into it because you wanted to be a marketer.

Then you realized that you like to eat.

And marketing is almost unavoidable if you want to stay in business and put food on the table.

Intellectually you know that sending out lots of emails is good for your business.

There’s still a little part of you however that’s a bit uncomfortable with the whole thing.

You worry that you’re an unwelcome, bothering people, an intruder.

That little voice of insecurity is always buzzing in the back of your head.

So when someone replies to one of your emails and complains, it’s natural to feel a bit defensive:

WHY DON’T THEY GET IT? DON’T THEY UNDERSTAND THAT I’M ONLY DOING ALL OF THIS TO KEEP MY BUSINESS GOING SO I CAN HELP MORE PEOPLE?!?

So when someone comes along (me) and shares a story about getting beat up for sending out an email…

Whooosh—all of those emotions from your own painful experiences dealing with angry subscribers come rushing to the fore.

Question for you:

What topics generate the most replies with YOUR list?

What do your subscribers feel they *must* do as a part of their daily survival—that gets them beat up and disrespected day in and day out?

Look for these hot buttons in your market.

When your inbox floods after you hit Send, that’s a valuable clue.
