How Writing Software Helped Me Write Better Prose
Once I had a chance to interview one of the best-known bloggers in the programming niche.
Toward the end of the interview, I made a rookie blunder:
I asked a question with the main purpose of trying to impress the guy, who at the time I really looked up to.
I don’t remember exactly what I asked—the question was something about whether he’d found that writing code had also helped him become a better writer and blogger.
Long pause…
Him: “I don’t understand the question.”
Me: stammering and backpedaling and trying to explain a half-baked idea.
Eventually I gave up and concluded the interview awkwardly.
I still cringe every time I think about that experience.
But…
I WAS onto something with that question.
Writing code introduced me to a new way of approaching my work—one that is *especially* relevant to writing emails and sales copy.
This “developer mindset” can help you write smooth, airtight copy that’s free of empty hype and “copy-speak.”
I dug into this recently on a podcast with Chad Bostick.
Chad is the host of the HelloTechPros podcast, and he’s an *excellent* interviewer—
The kind who pulls new insights and information out of you, then summarizes what you just said in a way that it 10X more memorable and coherent.
This interview was a ton of fun.
